The growth of KIIT and KISS from a modest beginning with only US $100 in early 1990s to internationally acclaimed institutions is the story of indomitable spirit of its Founder, Dr. Achyuta Samanta. He converted his childhood struggle and hardship into his strength and went on to script an incredible success story. Emerging from obscurity, Dr. Samanta is now empowering thousands of underprivileged tribal children to dream and take control of their lives through his iconic institution, KISS. Besides his social and educational entrepreneurship, he has been serving or served as the member of 15 apex bodies of Govt. of India, including Commission Member (2008-2014) of University Grants Commission (UGC) and Member, Executive Committee of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). He has recently been elected General President of the prestigious Indian Science Congress Association (Term : 2017-18). He is also member of important international bodies like International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), U.S.A.; Asia Economic Forum (AEF); and University Mobility of Asia and the Pacific (UMAP), Bangkok.

The multifaceted Dr. Samata has not remained contented with KIIT & KISS and has never forgotten his roots and philosophy of his life to respect mother, motherland and mother tongue. He has been constantly promoting, supporting and safe guarding the literature, art and culture. His passion and love for language, literature, art and culture has given birth to Kalinga Media Pvt. Ltd (Kalinga TV-24X7 News Channel), 'Kadambini', a popular literary family magazine in Odia, 'Kunikatha' - a magazine for children and KIIT Temple Trust, having 25 spiritual centers. He is also the Chief Patron of 'NANHI PARI', the little Miss India contest, the only competition of its kind in the world. 

Dr. Samanta’s great humanitarian work has been recognized in form of numerous national and international awards, including Gusi Peace Prize International in 2014 and ‘Isa Award for Service to Humanity’, top civilian award of the Kingdom of Bahrain, on June 3, 2015.
